Senior Laser Technician

Education

Associates Degree in Laser, Vacuum, Electronics, Electronics Technology, or related (In the alternative, will accept two additional years of experience as described below)

Experience

Two years experience in Water-Cooled Ion Laser Tube and System Manufacturing, Integration and Troubleshooting

Other Skills

  • Working knowledge of high and ultra high vacuum techniques, three phase, high voltage/current analog applied electronics and troubleshooting
  • Alignment of laser systems using measurement and calibration devices
  • Quality Assurance of laser tubes and systems to ensure compliance with in-house standards and governmental requirements for reporting.

Duties

  • Support review, analysis, design & optimization of water-cooled ion laser tube & system products and related manufacturing processes.
  • Review & revise wiring and components placement designs to facilitate integration of laser tubes/systems.
  • Recommend alternatives to production parts usage to eliminate contamination in tube manufacturing.
  • Identify & obtain correct materials for tube/system manufacturing.
  • Assist in development of prototypes, resolution of manufacturing problems, & product modification/improvement.
  • Schedule tube/system production.
  • Align laser systems using measurement and calibration devices.
  • Evaluate manufacturing data & final test results to determine reasons for product performance deviation.
  • Use knowledge of three phase high voltage/ high current analog applied electronics assemblies to assist in troubleshooting of the designs, as well as the repair of completed products.
  • Recommend product changes to eliminate unnecessary steps from final testing stage & relocate to lower level assembly area.
  • Educate assembly line on changes or additions to manufacturing techniques.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance on new laser tubes & systems.
  • Utilize computerized manufacturing program & database in performing duties.
  • Provide guidance & technical supervision to junior-level staff.
